album blog - day three

Still more drum tracking i am afraid!
We stayed in the studio last night until about 11pm. We went to Victoria station so Simon could give his dad his camera back, then we went on to Fulham Broadway to pick up the flat keys off our manager. He told us some VERY VERY exciting news, which you will find out pretty soon! Then it was on to Wandsworth Town. We got McDonalds and walked to the flat..so nearly getting mugged, we were so scared when these 3 people came out the shadows and started walking towards us.

We got to the flat and were greeted by "To My Boy", who were staying with us this evening. They played us their new b side, which sounded great, then we got some sleep.

In the morning, Simon and myself went downstairs into the offices, and chatted to Michael, who does our press. He gave us both Dizzee Rascal shirts, a reggae compilation and told us to come back soon!.....amazing!

Off to the studio to start some more drumming. It was newer songs today, the aim was to get another 4 done, but I ended up doing 2. Not so good really. The new "C&C" snare drum sounds amazing on (working title) "Crunk", and "Echoes" sounds pretty meaty already. My tech Graham came down to the studio, and we chilled out while they were fixing the tapes and watched videos of our sound guy and a girl (a few people will know what this video is!).

My friends went home, and my friend Emma came to join me in the studio. I drummed the last song on the album, but this morning, I have re done them, and they sound huge. Seriously, the last song on this album is beautiful.

Emma and I went back to the flat and.....watched tv.

This morning, I woke up late. I was supposed to be in the studio by 11, and i woke up at half past. We dropped the camera off in the offices and i came straight here. I have done 3 takes of (working title) "Ender", and we feel we have a good one in there. We are about to piece together what sounds good from each one, and make a perfect one. To some of you, this may seem like cheating, but EVERYONE does it, on drums, guitar, bass and singing. How do you think they make "The View" sound half good on CD!?!

Next song is going to be (working title) "New Song 4", then "Part III", then "Adventures" - and i think i have a few more.

We have pictures of yesterday, i will try and load them up soon, but I am a technology retard.

Take care

day two - drum tracking

as this is the first installment to use photos, it should be a bit more interesting.
as we explained yesterday we've just moved in to the studio for the next few weeks, it's an amazing building and is peppered with platinum and gold discs/cassesttes, grammys, the usual studio attire which our producer has been collecting over the past few years due to his rather impressive cv.

on monday we finished all the sequenced parts in order for me to able to drum, which is my task for the next few days. we started with recommendations and managed to get through pink squares, hunters daughter and part II.

the night before i'd been talking abut to our producer (hugh) about what drum sound i wanted to achieve from the album, i put together a cd of the various drum bits andsounds so hugh could hear what i wanted. it took him two minutes to achieve it, listening back to todays work, my drums sound so powerful and big, though part of this power has meant i've broken another cymbal, so tomorrow i'm off to rent my second set of cymbals.

today also marked the arrival of a beautiful c&c drum kit. whilst my custom kit is being built they have sent one across to me to aide with the recording process, though unfortunately it arrived a day late so i had already set up my other kit, though with newer songs tomorrow i will be bringing bits of both kits together, to create something even more amazing sounding!

we've also had the video camera in the studio today so there will be a drum tracking video blog up tomorrow, which will pull together the best bits of hard studio graft.

it's getting pretty late and we need to be up early in the morning to assataine freebies from our record labels hq, which we are living above.

other higlights of today include our engineers (cesar) love of youtube, in particular a multitude of phillipino inmates dancing the entire 'thriller' routine and a couple of retarded army privates playing chicken with their heads and an ironing board, funnily enough they lost that battle.

have a good day.
